Forces and Magnets: Let's Investigate (Science Essentials Key Stage 2)

This title supports the following learning objectives for Key Stage 2 Science. Students should be taught to: Notice that some forces need contact between two objects, but magnetic forces can act at a distance; observe how magnets attract or repel. Compare and group everyday materials on the basis of whether they are attracted to a magnet. Describe magnets as having two poles and predict whether two magnets will attract or repel each other, depending on which poles are facing. Explain that objects fall towards Earth because of gravity. Identify the effects of resistance and friction. Recognise that levers, pulleys and gears allow a smaller force to have a greater effect.
